TikTok Pixel Explained: Tracking & Conversions

The TikTok Pixel measures actions taken by visitors who arrive from TikTok ads, and builds audiences for retargeting and campaign optimisation.

What the pixel code is

Each pixel has a pixel code (around 20 alphanumeric characters, e.g. CIQT3PJC77UFNL1VSL30) tying events to your TikTok Ads account. In GTM it’s usually added via the official TikTok Pixel template.

Events & matching

It sends events like ViewContent, AddToCart and CompletePayment, and supports advanced/hashed matching to improve attribution while protecting user data.

Why it matters

Without the pixel, TikTok can’t optimise toward conversions or retarget — you’d be flying blind on TikTok ad spend.

How to check yours is working

Run your site through our free Tag Explorer tool — it shows every tag on the page, nested under its GTM container, with the tracking IDs. To confirm a tag actually fires, use GTM’s Preview mode or your browser’s DevTools Network tab.
